Everything We Refused to Put in Our Electrolyte (and What We Used Instead)
If the sweet ones never tasted right to you, it wasn't in your head. It was on the label. Here's everything we cut, and the four ingredients that survived.

The Sweetener on Almost Every "Clean" Label

The One Everyone Thinks Is Fruit
Monk fruit gets a health halo, so people assume the packet is fine. Here's what the label doesn't say out loud: what goes in is an extract, isolated and concentrated in a facility, and on most labels it's blended with a bulking sweetener you'll find on the line right after it. We skipped it. The only sweetness in our mix comes from the natural sugar in coconut water and the fruit itself (Berry Sweet also carries organic cane sugar, and it says so on the label).

The Fake Fruit Taste You Can't Place
That fake-fruit aftertaste is almost always "natural flavors." It sounds like real fruit, but it's an FDA umbrella term for lab-made flavor compounds pulled apart with solvents, and it can legally cover dozens of ingredients a brand never has to name. Brands reach for it for one reason: it costs pennies per serving and tastes identical in every batch, while real fruit costs real money. We refused it and paid for the fruit. Freeze-dried strawberry, raspberry, tart cherry, lemon, lime, grapefruit, and coconut water, right there on the label by flavor.

The Fillers Hiding as Sugar
Two fillers show up constantly: maltodextrin and dextrose. They bulk up the packet and add sweetness for pennies, and they're where a lot of that weirdly flat, artificial taste comes from. The frustrating part is that your body does need a little real sugar to move minerals in. So we went the expensive route: whole coconut water. Its natural sugar carries the minerals across, no fillers required. "Zero sugar" was never the win it sounds like.
Skip the Fillers
The Reason a Real Powder Should Clump
Most packets add anti-caking agents like silicon dioxide so the powder stays perfectly free-flowing and never settles. Real freeze-dried fruit doesn't behave that way. Without those agents, it clumps a little and drifts to the bottom of the glass. People trained on ultra-processed powders read that as a defect. It isn't. Those little bits floating in your glass are the proof there's real fruit in there, so give it a quick second stir.

Why Salt-Forward Beats Candy-Sweet
If your only reference is Liquid IV or LMNT, sweet feels like the baseline. It isn't. That reference point is what years of sweetened powders trained your tongue to expect. A real-food electrolyte tastes salt-forward, closer to a salted freeze-dried strawberry than to candy. Most people stop noticing after about a week, and once they do, the sweet versions start tasting like syrup. Give it a week before you decide.
Give It a Week
A Label You Can Actually Pronounce
Stack up everything we just cut. What's left: organic coconut water, sea salt, inland sea concentrate from the Great Salt Lake, real fruit. Four things you'd find on a grocery list, not a list you'd need a chemistry degree to read. Third-party tested, with the certificates of analysis posted for every flavor, so you can check the label instead of trusting it.
Read the COAsMeet Mineral Mist
Mineral Mist is the electrolyte my husband and I built after we couldn't find one that passed my own label test. No stevia. No monk fruit. No lab-made flavors, no filler sugars, no anti-caking agents.
If you read this far, you already care what goes in your glass.
First-time buyers get a full thirty day money back window. The week your tongue takes to recalibrate happens on our dime. Drink it every day for a few weeks, and if your body disagrees, send it back.
What are people saying about Mineral Mist?
Each of these answers one question we get before the first glass: the salt, whether it's really clean, the kids, a little sugar versus a lot, the price, and why switch from a brand you already buy. In their own words, whole. These describe individual experiences; results vary. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
"At first, I wasn't sure what I thought about untammed electrolyte mix. Now, I love it. I don't like anything with fake sugar or sugar substitute. The strawberry squeeze is my favorite so far. Tastes like you would have put some fresh fruit in your water with a bit of salt! Try it! Keep giving it a try.. it takes getting used to because it's not your usual electrolyte mixes… it's way better!"
"The taste is like a salty strawberry with hints of sweet- WHICH I LOVE. I've been searching for a CLEAN electrolyte for years and fell short. Everything has a sugar free option that's toxic. I care about what goes in my body. I care about transparency. Both needs are met and it's super tasty. I mix with the Ballarina Farm strawberry protein and boy is that AMAZING. Like crack. I just make with water, no need for milk. Try it and tell me I am wrong!"
"I've tried so many electrolyte powders and they all have stevia, monk fruit, or some weird additives. This is literally just real food. Me and my kids drink it every day, even my picky 4 year old loves the strawberry."
"The saltiness takes some getting used to, but once you try it a couple times it really grows on you. I tend to dilute it more than the packaging says but overall I'm loving the clean ingredients and drink one every morning (I'm glad it's not full of sugar, first thing when I wake, like other electrolyte drinks) and will definitely be buying more."
"I have searched for truly clean electrolytes with enough salt in them to make an impact. Untamed has done it! I have all three flavors and although i like all of them but strawberry and lemon are my favorites. The coconut tastes like marshmallow to me. Not bad, but i just like the other two a little more. These are not crazy sweet like many competitors. So do not expect the same "fake food" taste. In fact, i don't think there are really any true competitors for untammed since not one other brand is as clean. I drink these on their own mixed in water, but if it's not sweet enough, could easily add to a smoothie or add sweetener of your choice. I mix strawberry with another polyphenals mix and make a super drink for gut support. I also like that there is actually enough salt in it to make an impact. This is my pre-work out treat. Really happy with the product. It is on the pricey side, but health is wealth and i think very worth it. I hope they create individual travel packs in the future."
"I love this. My husband doesn't like it but I love how natural it tastes and is. I was looking for something without citric acid, flavorings and stevia. I like that it's slightly salty and not sweet. I can't stand sweet electrolyte drinks. This is the perfect amount of strawberry flavor. Now I want to try the other flavors! This is my new morning ritual :)"
